Job Vacancies

Your guide to gang and list openings.

Overview

The Employment Information Center ensures fair hiring opportunities by enforcing the industry’s collectively bargained seniority system for deep-sea longshore workers and checkers. That system requires hiring agents to follow certain hiring orders every time they select longshore workers for employment. As part of that process, they have to consider the list or gang at a particular container/cruise terminal, the job categories for which a port worker has been trained, the geographic area where a longshore worker generally works, and a worker’s “alpha seniority” based on when they were first hired to work in the port.

Vacancies on a container or cruise terminal’s particular list or gang are filled according to a set of rules and regulations that provide for job postings and approval by the Waterfront Commission. If you are a longshore worker who wants to move to a new gang or list, please check here for any available postings.
