New York Waterfront Commission Launches Annual Port Watchmen Training

The New York Waterfront Commission successfully launched its Annual Port Watchmen Training, a critical initiative aimed at bolstering maritime security and safeguarding the integrity of the workforce in the Port of New York.

The comprehensive 10-day training program was conducted from January 8-22, 2024, in collaboration with the New Jersey State Police - Port Security Section, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, United States Coast Guard and New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.   Almost 300 dedicated New York port watchmen were in attendance.

The program was designed to address the evolving challenges in port security, to ensure that those who are tasked with protecting our port’s cargo are well-equipped to handle various scenarios.

NYWC expresses its gratitude to all participants and collaborating agencies for their dedication and contribution to making the program a resounding success.  This initiative reflects our steadfast commitment to combating criminal activity and influence in the Port of New York so that the port and region can grow and prosper.
