Pier Superintendents
Supervising the work of longshore workers.
What is a Pier Superintendent?
Pier superintendents supervise the work of longshore workers involved in cargo handling operations. They direct work on the piers, including the loading and unloading of container ships. They are key advisory representatives of port employers, and so applications must be submitted by the waterfront employer on behalf of any individual who wants to be licensed as a pier superintendent.
What is the standard for licensure?
Given the importance of this role, an individual is required to possess good character and integrity in order to be licensed as a pier superintendent.
