What is a Stevedore?

Stevedores are responsible for coordinating the movement of cargo to and from container ships, and for performing services incidental to the movement of certain cargo at the Port. They are also responsible for the storage of waterborne freight in or near the Port’s facilities, and for cargo repairing, coopering, general maintenance, carpentry, mechanical and other miscellaneous work. Stevedores play a critical role in the safe and efficient handling of cargo at the Port, and work closely with shipping companies, terminal operators and other Port stakeholders to ensure that cargo is transported in a timely and cost-effective manner.

What is the standard for licensure?

An applicant must possess good character and integrity in order to be issued a stevedore license.

What is the duration of a stevedore license?

Unlike most other licenses and registrations which need not be renewed, a stevedore license must be renewed every five years.  The current stevedore licensing term expires on December 1, 2025.
